Blood Bank. To independently perform and report test analysis in accordance with Pathology policies and procedures, FDA, CAP, AABB, OSHA, CLIA, and JCAHO regulations to facilitate quality patient care. Education: Bachelor''s degree and certification at the Medical Technologist level (ASCP, NCA, HEW) or Bachelor''s degree and categorical certification consistent with the work performed: C, H, I, BB, M (ASCP); NCA categorical certification: NRCC, ASM, other equivalent Experience: 1 year clinical laboratory experience. Special Skills: MT level certification (ASCP, NCA, HEW) or categorical certification consistent with work performed (e.g., NCA categorical certification, NRCC, ASRM or equivalent, C, H, I, BB, and Core Laboratory.) Ability to perform work accurately and pay attention to details, frequently changing from one task to another without loss of efficiency or composure. Ability to function competently in a changing work environment. Ability to work cooperatively within the health-system and with multidisciplinary team members. Ability to utilize effective time management to set priorities, perform job related responsibilities. Ability to use critical thinking skills to effectively problem-solve and deliver service. Supervision Expected: None Supervision Received: Supervision from the Supervisor, Manager or Director. Working Conditions: Hospital environment in a well-lit laboratory. Mobility is required to obtain specimens and move to different areas of Pathology. Requires moderate sitting, walking, and frequent and prolonged periods of standing. Requires manual dexterity to perform laboratory tests and data entry. Some heavy lifting of reagent packages of approximately 20 to 30 pounds is required. Requires transporting of heavy reagents on utility carts pushing over smooth and carpeted floors. Requires concentration, color recognition, and attention to detail to detect changes in specimens and perform clinical testing. Some exposure to corrosive solutions, combustible reagents, fumes, infectious material, and occasional exposure to radioactive material. Exposure to blood and blood products and contagious diseases transmitted through specimens. OSHA: Bloodborne Pathogen Category I Employees in this job description are expected to have contact with bloodborne pathogens and as such they are required to be oriented and annually trained under the Federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration''s Bloodborne Pathogen Standard (CFR 1910.1030)
