MEDICAL TECHNOLOGIST (ASCP)

Performs a variety of laboratory procedures in an independent manner with little or no direct supervision. Produces accurate and timely test results appropriate to specific age groups by accepted laboratory standards Will work mainly in Special Hematology Department. Main responsibilities will include hematology, serology, and Immunology. Ability to operate and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment. Reports abnormal or critical results to the appropriate personnel and notifies department supervisor of issues. Maintains competency in all areas of responsibility. May require extensive standing, sitting, bending, walking and some heavy lifting. May work with hazardous chemicals, noxious odors and infectious diseases. Assists in troubleshooting problems and maintaining quality control and customer satisfaction. May require travel between Carilion facilities. May require working different shifts.
